Weekly Press Release 

July 6 – July 19 

Fatal vehicle crashOn July 6 at 7:25PM, police were dispatched to the 1200 block of North Reading Road for a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle operated by Milton Howe, 55, Reamstown, had crossed the centerline of the highway and had impacted head-on with a southbound tractor trailer operated by Harry Rissler, 72, New Providence. Howe was pronounced dead at the scene, Rissler was not injured. Responding units included the Reamstown Fire Company and Ambulance, as well as Denver Rescue. 

Theft – A BMX bike valued at $400 was reported stolen from the back porch of the residence at 127 East Main Street, Adamstown, between 6:00 and 7:00PM on July 8.

Crash – One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash in front of Weaver Markets, 2500 North Reading Rd., at 8:28AM July 10. Lawrence Novak, 77, Reading, turned left into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Laura Barnes, 34, Adamstown. The impact sent the vehicles into a vehicle waiting to turn out of Weaver’s parking lot, driven by Gary Plantholt, 60, Adamstown. Barnes was taken to ECH by Reamstown Ambulance for treatment.

 

Warrant Service/Drug Arrest – Officers arrested Amanda Pajeski, 25, Wollups Hill Road, on a Lancaster County Bench Warrant on July 10 at 7:40PM. Officers also found drug paraphernalia and an amount of suspected heroin. Charges are pending lab tests. She was turned over to sheriff’s deputies on the Bench Warrant.

 

DUI– Travis Steinmetz, 21, Ephrata, was stopped for erratic driving in the 1st block of Main Street at 2:00AM July 11. He failed field sobriety tests, and a blood test at EC indicated that he was over the legal imit. He will be summoned to appear before MDJ Hamill on the charges.

 

Crash – One person was I injured in a two-car crash in the 500 block of Hahnstown Rd. at 11:20AM July 11. Dorothy Kale, 83, Lebanon, crossed the center line and struck a vehicle operated by Melvin Leid, 59, Newville. Kale was taken to LGH for treatment.

 

Theft – Approximately $600 worth of power tools were reported stolen between July 10 and 11 from a vehicle parked at 311 Willow Street, Adamstown.

Burglary – During the night of July 12/13, Precision Coating Technology and Manufacturing, 245 South Muddy Creek Rd., was entered and an undetermined amount of items were stolen.  

Theft – Four wheels and tires valued at $4,000 were reported stolen from vehicle offered for sale at Countryside Auto, 3072 North Reading Rd., Adamstown, during the night of July 12/13. Several vehicles also had their gas tanks drained. 

Vandalism – A cement block was thrown threw an office window at Martin Construction, 985 Stone Hill Rd., during the night of July 12/13 in an apparent attempt to gain entry. 

Theft – A tag-along trailer, valued at $29,434 was stolen from the lot at Gold Rush Inc., 920 Stone Hill Road between July 11 and July 13. 

Crash – One person was injured in a one-car crash in the 100 block of North Reading Rd. at 3:36PM July 13. Heather M. Klopp, Reamstown, apparently fell asleep and struck a utility pole, shearing it off. She was taken to ECH by Reamstown Ambulance. 

Theft – Approximately 30 gallons of gas valued at $72.00 was reported stolen from a truck parked at 1435 Swamp Bridge Rd. during the night of July 13/14. 

Underage Drinking – Max A. Fasnacht, 19, Ephrata, and Jarred M. Roark, 20, Stevens, were both cited for underage drinking after they were stopped in the first block of Summers Drive, Reamstown, at 11:20PM July 15. 

Attempted Theft – Orebelis Fernandez-Fernandez, 39, Hialeah, FL, was arrested and charged with attempted theft on July 16, after he was found to have attempted to pump diesel fuel from the victim’s truck into his own at 34 Denver Road. He was arraigned on the charge and committed to LCP in lieu of bail. 

DUI – Police stopped Andrew K. Buchanan, 23, Stevens, at 1:37AM in the 2200 block of North Reading Rd. after he nearly struck a police car and then ran a red light. He displayed signs of intoxication and subsequently failed a blood test at ECH. He will be summoned to appear before MDJ Hamill on DUI and related charges. 

DUI – Raymond K. Winters, 68, Adamstown, was stopped by police near the intersection of West Swartzville Rd. and Vera Cruz Rd. at 10:43AM July 18. He was found to be intoxicated and was taken to ECH for a blood test, which indicated he was over the legal limit. He was also found to be driving while under suspension for a previous DUI conviction. He will appear before MDJ Hamill on the charges. 

Disorderly Conduct – James A. Burkey, 56, Denver, was cited for Disorderly Conduct after a road-rage incident in the first block of Main Street, Denver, at 2:30PM July 18.  

DUI - Tricia O. Sweigart, 19, faces DUI charges after she backed into a wall at The Dunkin’ Donuts, 2055 North Reading Rd. at 12:37AM July 19. Considerable damage was sustained to the interior of the building. A blood test indicated that Sweigart was over the legal limit, and will be summoned to appear before MDJ Hamill on DUI charges.
