Humane League Cuts Dog Adoption Fees to Make Room for Dogs Rescued from Almost Heaven Kennels

Lancaster, PA (June 24, 2009) –  The Humane League of Lancaster County will be assisting the Humane Society of the United States and the Pennsylvania Department of Dog Law with dogs who were removed yesterday from Almost Heaven Kennels.  In preparation to receive dogs from the puppy mill seizure, the Humane League will be cutting all of our dog adoption fees in half, effective today.  While we do not expect the dogs coming in from the seizure to be available for adoption immediately, we have a wide variety of dogs who are currently at the Humane League waiting to find permanent homes.  By reducing our adoption fees we hope to adopt out many of the dogs we currently have which will, in turn, allow us to make room in our kennels for dogs from the seizure.  Megan Gallagher, Vice President of Development and Outreach, states, “So many animal shelters have stepped forward to help the HLLC when we have been inundated with large numbers of dogs from puppy mills and other seizures, that it is our responsibility and pleasure to return the favor to the animals and the animal welfare community by opening our doors to these dogs.”

The vision of the Humane League of Lancaster County is a humane community where all pets are protected and wanted.  As the leading animal welfare organization in Lancaster County, the Humane League has been helping people and pets in the Lancaster area since 1917 and is located at 2195 Lincoln Hwy. East. For more information, visit www.humaneleague.com .
